Shaykh Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari invited and honoured at the Rotary's “Peace Symposium”, in Antony
On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the Rotary organised in Antony, near Paris, a Peace Symposium bringing together figures from different spiritual, cultural, political and media backgrounds, among them the spiritual guide of the Karkariya order, Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari.
A round table on secularism
The Shaykh took part in a round table on secularism, moderated by Claire Derville, editor-in-chief of the programme Le Jour du Seigneur on France 2.
Alongside Father Alexandre Comte, priest of the diocese of Paris and national delegate for relations with Judaism at the Bishops' Conference of France, Pascal Colin, secretary general of the UDI and Knight of the National Order of Merit, and Kiran Mathur, a recognised figure of Hinduism, the Shaykh was able to shed light on the differences between the conception of secularism in France and in Morocco.
In his address, the Shaykh recalled that the Qur'an teaches the value of differences between peoples:
“We created you as nations and tribes so that you may know one another.”
(Surah 49, verse 13)
This divine word shows that diversity is a richness for humanity, not a constraint. He thus stressed the importance of living together and mutual respect, beyond religious or cultural differences.
A distinction for his commitment
At the close of the event, Shaykh Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari received an award, in recognition of his commitment to peace and to bringing peoples closer together: the Paul Harris Fellow certificate of Rotary International.
This award crowns the work of a man at the head of a spiritual community of more than two million disciples around the world, committed to the path of dialogue with all communities, of fraternity and of the search for inner and universal peace.
