Ibrahim Afham al-Zarhuni
Fifteenth-sixteenth century · Zerhoun, near Meknes · disciple of Ahmad Zarruq
Ibrahim Afham al-Zarhuni, from the Zerhoun region near Meknes, was a disciple of Ahmad Zarruq and a link in the transmission of Shadhili teaching to northern Morocco in the sixteenth century.
A disciple of Zarruq
Sources present him as a student of Ahmad Zarruq (1442-1493), whose teaching he passed on in the Meknes region. He belongs to the generation that spread the methods of the Shadhiliyya in the countryside.
His students
Among his students was the father of ʿAbd ar-Rahman al-Majdhub, which explains why the future poet was raised in a Sufi milieu. Little precise information survives about his life; his importance lies above all in his place in the chain linking Zarruq to al-Majdhub.
