Sidi Muhammad ibn al-Habib al-Bouzidi
Died 1909 · Algeria · shaykh of the Shadhili-Darqawi way
Muhammad ibn al-Habib al-Bouzidi was a shaykh of the Darqawi branch of the Shadhili way, established in the Mostaganem region. He is the master of Ahmad al-ʿAlawi and, according to the Karkari tradition, the disciple of Ibn Qaddour.
In the service of Ibn Qaddour
According to the tradition of the Karkari family, al-Bouzidi was for forty years in the service of Muhammad ibn Qaddour al-Wakili in the Karkar mountain. He accompanied him daily and brought him the water for his ablutions. This long period is presented as the foundation of his training.
A shaykh of the Darqawiyya
Al-Bouzidi belonged to the Darqawiyya, the branch of the Shadhili way descended from Mawlay al-ʿArbi ad-Darqawi. He led a group of disciples based on the recitation of the order's wird and on the collective practice of dhikr.
The master of Ahmad al-ʿAlawi
In 1894 he initiated in Mostaganem Ahmad al-ʿAlawi, then a craftsman, who remained fifteen years in his service. When he died in 1909, al-ʿAlawi succeeded him and founded the ʿAlawiyya. Through this transmission, the tradition that came from Karkar reached Mostaganem before returning, with Mawlay at-Tahir, to Ibn Qaddour's family.
