The Malagasy Karkariya zawiya celebrates

A special bond unites Morocco and Madagascar, ever since the late Mohammed V was exiled there with the whole royal family. The Malagasy have a very special relationship with everything Moroccan and hold the Moroccan people in great esteem. On 2 July, there was another occasion to deepen those ties with Morocco, thanks to an initiative of the Malagasy Karkari disciples.

On the occasion of the celebration of the birthday of Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari, may Allah sanctify his secret, they organised a spiritual gathering attended by many people. It took place at the Karkariya Shadhiliya zawiya in Toliara, the largest city in the south of Madagascar, stretched along the Mozambique Channel and close to the Tropic of Capricorn.

After the hadra and the dhikr gathering, a communal meal was offered. At the end of the meeting, the hundred or so Karkari disciples present and their guests prayed for the Shaykh of the Karkariya Sufi Order and for Morocco, with which the Malagasy have emotional ties that are historic and firmly anchored in their collective memory.
