Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi al-Karkari at the Karkariya zawiya of Lyon-Condrieu (21-12-24)

After answering the invitations of the universities of Stanford and Berkeley, and after giving a lecture in Paris, Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi al-Karkari put down his bags at the Karkariya Zawiya of Lyon-Condrieu.

On Saturday 21 December 2024, the Shaykh honoured us with his presence at the Karkariya Zawiya of Lyon/Condrieu, where he was invited to preside over a spiritual gathering that began at the prayer of al-‘asr and ended late at night.
At first, the Shaykh answered the audience’s questions on diverse and varied subjects, all linked to Muslim spirituality. The Shaykh recalled that we were all created for one single purpose: the worship of Allah. He therefore explained that in the life of the traveller on the path, things do not happen through bad luck or chance, but are the consequence of our own acts and our own shortcomings. By scrupulously practising the five pillars of Islam, the disciple will strive towards the perfecting of his body, in which there is a heart that must also be cleansed and purified by the constant mention of the name of Allah.
Between the maghrib prayer and the ‘isha prayer came the time for the daily wird and the group recitation of the Qur’an, which allows the traveller precisely to polish his heart in the hope of seeing it illuminated by the Light of the Lord.

After the ‘isha prayer came the time of the hadra, sometimes called the “Sufi dance”. In reality it is not a dance as such, but a spiritual exercise during which the traveller invokes the name of Allah “Al-Hayy” (The Living).
Afterwards, the Shaykh held a gathering in which he gave the exegesis of Surat Yusuf, from which he drew several very important wisdoms for the life of a traveller on the path.
