Shaykh Al-Karkari gives a lecture on Sufi psychology and metaphysics in Brazil

Joinville, Brazil – Shaykh Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al-Karkari, founder of the Al-Karkari Institute for Sufi Studies, gave a lecture at the Institute of Psychological and Parapsychological Sciences in Joinville, a city in southern Brazil. The event brought together a select audience of professors and researchers in the field.

The lecture explored the founding principles of healing and therapy in Sufi scientific thought. The Shaykh explained that the prophetic methodology offers a global vision of the human being, which integrates the material needs of the body, including conventional medicine, and the spiritual necessities that form the heart of human existence and the origin of its fundamental ailments. This approach rests on understanding the dual nature of the human being, at once sensory and spiritual.

He detailed how healing can be accomplished within this global framework, stressing that the highest form of healing lies in restoration through the divine light, which is the very essence of the self.

A healing dhikr session

At the end of the lecture, and at the request of those present, the Shaykh led a healing dhikr (invocation of God) session. Professors, students and researchers joined in the collective recitation of the formula of oneness, “La ilaha illa Allah” (there is no god but God). On this occasion the Shaykh cited the Qur'anic verses:

“Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
“And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers.”

The lecture aroused keen intellectual and scientific interest in the audience and gave rise to constructive exchanges aimed at building bridges between psychology, cognitive science and the living medical knowledge inherited from Sufism.
