Ahmad ibn ʿUqba al-Hadrami was a scholar and Sufi master settled in Cairo at the end of the fifteenth century, attached to the Shadhili and Qadiri ways. He is best known as the main spiritual master of Ahmad Zarruq.
A master of Cairo
Of Hadrami origin, Ahmad ibn ʿUqba al-Hadrami lived in Cairo in the Mamluk era. He was both a jurist and a spiritual master, and taught in several circles.
The master of Zarruq
Ahmad Zarruq, who came from Morocco, became his disciple during his stay in Cairo. He received initiation from him and remained marked by his teaching, which he mentions in his writings. Ahmad ibn ʿUqba died in 1489, four years before his disciple.
