Moulay al-Qasim ibn Idris
Died c. 860 · Western Rif · son of Idris II
Moulay al-Qasim is one of the twelve sons of Idris II. Governor of part of the western Rif, he withdrew from power to lead a life of devotion. He is a direct forefather of Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari.
The division of the kingdom
At the death of Idris II (828), his son Muhammad was proclaimed sovereign. On the advice of their grandmother Kenza, he divided the kingdom into eleven provinces, entrusted to his brothers. Al-Qasim received the western Rif, which he administered from Tangier to Larache and as far as the surroundings of al-Hoceima.
Refusing war
When a conflict broke out between Muhammad and his brothers, al-Qasim, known for his piety and asceticism, refused to take part despite his brother's order.
The retreat
Around 840 he withdrew from power to settle in a ribat, a place of retreat, in the Asilah region. There he ended his days around 860, in devotion. His son Muhammad al-Bakmani succeeded him.
