Ivorian Karkaris come to the aid of the flood victims of Anyama

A few days ago, the municipality of Anyama, a community north of Abidjan (Ivory Coast), suffered a natural disaster that caused several deaths. On 18 June 2020, heavy rain fell on the locality, causing a deadly landslide. The toll: several houses were swallowed under the earth with their occupants; more than 30 families saw their homes destroyed, 17 people lost their lives and 5 others were reported missing; several children nearly perished under the rubble.

Anyama has since seen a good number of humanitarian actions aimed at easing the misfortune of the families affected by this sad event. In coordination with the Mother Zawya in Morocco, the Ivorian Karkari disciples undertook a humanitarian initiative for the families affected, who received several donations of basic necessities: survival kits; mattresses, bedspreads; foodstuffs; gas cylinders; and so on.

The Ivorian Karkari disciples also did their best to find safe places to house the homeless, and by the Grace of Allah they succeeded: some of the victims were housed in a mosque while others were taken in by a church. This revived the bonds of mutual aid between the different religious affiliations, Muslim and Christian in particular.

These humanitarian and charitable actions carried out by the disciples of the Karkariya Sufi path take place, as has often been stressed, within the framework of the spiritual education and Sufi teaching of the Karkariya Sufi Order, under the guidance of Shaykh Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari, may Allah sanctify his secret, one of whose foundations is helping and loving one’s neighbour, in accordance with the principles of Islam.
